Spurs may have received a transfer boost, as Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante is said to want to stay in London while looking for a new club.
The World Cup winner has made just two appearances for Chelsea this season due to a slew of injuries and is now according to Fabrizio Romano, set to leave the Blues once his contract expires in the summer.
He joined the London club in 2016 and has since then nearly won everything on offer at Stamford Bridge. However, his time with the Blue appears to be coming to an end.
According to a report from Foot Mercato, both Spurs and Arsenal are now possible options for him due to his desire to stay in London.
Romano claimed on his YouTube channel that, while Kante would be happy to stay at Chelsea, it is unlikely that the club and the player will come to an agreement over a new deal. And since he wants to stay in London he will be open to joining Spurs who he has been linked with.
Romano said:
“N’Golo Kante would love to stay at Chelsea, he loves London, he loves the club, he loves the fans, he has a great relationship with all the teammates, so Kante would love to stay at the club but the reality is that, at the moment, there is still no agreement between the two parties.”
“This is why the expectation of those close to the player’s side and the club’s side is for N’Golo Kante to leave on a free.
“Big opportunity for many clubs, let’s see if he will decide to stay in the Premier League or try a different kind of experience.”
Spurs currently have Pierre-Emiile Hojberg, Rodrigo Bentancur, and Yves Bissouma in central midfield, so signing another player for the same position may not be high on Spurs’ priority list.
Having said that, despite his injuries, Kante’s previous experience under now Spurs boss Antonio Conte, which includes a Premier League title and an FA Cup in 89 appearances, makes him an appealing rotational option, and a proven winner on a free transfer could be difficult to turn down.
