Fabrizio Romano confirms Tottenham are scouting 24-year-old midfielder ahead of a potential summer move

By Mehdi Gokal -

Tottenham Hotspur have expressed interest in Atalanta midfielder Ederson, with Romano confirming the club has sent scouts to watch the player.

Spurs have had a busy transfer window so far. They have signed Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin and let go of several fringe players, as well as loaned out a few youngsters for their development.

However, they have yet to sign a midfielder, a position that was said to be a priority for the club. They have been linked with a couple of midfielders, one of them being Atalanta’s Brazilian ace, Ederson.

Transfer insider Dean Jones recently claimed that the 24-year-old is being looked at by the club.

And now renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed the rumours surrounding the English club’s interest in the Brazilian central midfielder.

According to Romano, the deal is expected to materialise in the upcoming summer.

In an interview with GiveMeSport, the transfer expert revealed that the Serie A club is unwilling to allow the player to leave during the mid-season. Nevertheless, a potential deal could be negotiated for the upcoming summer.

He said:

“Tottenham are one of many clubs scouting Ederson, as well as many other clubs around Europe, in Spain, in England, in Italy too, because Juventus also like the player and have been scouting Ederson.

He’s been doing fantastic for Atalanta this season. I think he’s going to be one of the names for the summer transfer window because they have no intention of letting him go in January.”

TBH Says:

One would assume that Conor Gallagher will remain our top preference if he is available in the summer but it has been suggested that Ederson is not seen as an alternative to the Chelsea man, rather an addition.

He has played a pivotal role in Gasperini’s side, featuring in 20 games in the current season, scoring five goals and assisting one.

The 24-year-old is versatile and can also play as a defensive midfielder, with the coaching staff deploying him in that role on three occasions this season – another trait which Ange looks for in the players.
