According to Fabrizio Romano, Spurs’ director of football Fabio Paratici is a huge fan of Sporting CP winger Pedro Porro, and is keeping an eye on him.
The 23-year-old has been in excellent form recently, so it’s not surprising to see an increase in transfer rumours involving the player, who would undoubtedly strengthen this Spurs squad.
Porro has recently been linked with Tottenham, who are looking for a reliable right-back. They are currently unable to rely on Emerson Royal, Matt Doherty, or Djed Spence.
Antonio Conte’s system is dependent on wing-backs. He encouraged the signing of several players in those roles at the majority of his former clubs.
According to Fabrizio Romano who said in his daily briefing for Caughtoffside, Spurs’ interest is genuine for the player who has a €45 million release clause included in his current contract. The North London club have also previously ‘sent their scouts’ to watch him play.
He also said that Paratici has known him about Porro for a long time but there have not been any direct talks as yet. He further claims that Manchester City holds the advantage as they had inserted a buy-back clause in the deal when they sold him to Porto.
He said:
“Links are normal as Tottenham have sent their scouts many times to follow Porro. He’s a player who Fabio Paratici knows very well since long time.
“At the moment there are still no direct talks, so not an easy one – also because Manchester City have €20m buy back clause and so they can control the situation.”
It is unclear whether City intends to sign Porro again, however, they may want to stop him from joining one of their Premier League rivals.
The Sporting star is a versatile player who can play out wide or as a wing-back, so he’d be more useful to Spurs than City right now, but either way, this could be an interesting saga to follow in the coming weeks and months.
