Fabrizio Romano confirms Spurs are ‘working on’ 7th summer signing; deal is ‘very close to being completed’

By Mehdi Gokal -

According to Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham are eyeing a move for Udinese star Destiny Udogie.

The ever-reliable journalist claimed that both Antonio Conte and Fabrizio Paratici are big ‘admirers of Destiny Udogie’ and that Spurs had opened talks with Udinese earlier this week regarding the young wing-back

He tweeted: “Fabio Paratici and Antonio Conte are both admirers of Destiny Udogie. The negotiations are progressing well as Udinese want to keep Udogie on loan until June 2023,”

“Tottenham are working on it, as reported yesterday.”

According to The Telegraph, the transfer is ‘very close to being completed’ and the fee is set to be around £21m. If the transfer goes through he’ll be competing for the left wing-back place with the likes of Ivan Perisic who Conte signed earlier in the transfer window and Ryan Sessegnon who is seen as his back up. Sergio Reguilon is expected to leave this summer and Destiny will be coming in place of him and is expected to be a signing for the future.

Destiny is an exciting young talent who offers a threat to the opposition from the left-hand side without compromising on his defensive duties. Jacek Kulig, a talent scout, has described the player as “the future”  of the national team and an “accurate and tenacious tackler.”

He is set to become Spurs’ seventh signing of the summer following the likes of Richarlison, Yves Bissouma, Perisic, Fraser Forster, Clement Lenglet, and Djed Spence.

This is really good planning from Spurs. By all accounts we buy, and loan back.

Destiny, Sarr, Gil are three of Europe’s most highly rated young lads. Manage their loans well and we could have three little stars ready to return in the next 18 months

This is more likely planning for a post-Perisic future. Sessegnon will be 23 (and importantly, homegrown) next Summer, Perisic will be 34.

It will be interesting to have Destiny on one side and Fate (Doherty) on the other.

Yeah we could do with one more class ready made signing. Someone like him would be ideal… When talking about the best players though, not many to choose from, and most are settled at this stage. I don’t think Inter want to sell Skriniar or Bastoni, and neither players actually want to come to us.
