‘Expected to make a formal move’, ‘have prioritised’ – Journalist shares exciting update on Spurs’ pursuit of striker

By Mehdi Gokal -

According to Evening Standard’s Dan Kilpatrick, Tottenham are ‘expected to make a formal move’ for Gent striker Gift Orban before the transfer window shuts.

However, as per the report, Tottenham ‘have prioritised’ to focus on the outgoings first and to sell off the deadstock.

So far Tottenham have been on the front foot in the transfer window making a number of signings to aid Ange Postecoglou’s rebuild.

But they have struggled to sell players who are no longer in the plans. This includes the likes of Davinson Sanchez, Tanguy Ndombele, Hugo Lloris, Djed Spence, Sergio Reguilon and Japhet Tanganga. All of these players have been told they are ‘free to leave Spurs’.

This need to trim the squad was confirmed by Postecoglou. He emphasised the need to address the squad size, stating that accumulating more players isn’t sustainable.

He said:

“We just can’t keep bringing players in, we need to move some players out.”

“That’s kind of where our focus is right now.

“Over the next three weeks what we don’t want to do is have it all happen really late in the window which means we’re caught short in any areas. It’s got to work that way.

We can’t just keep accumulating players. We’ve got a massive squad as it is at the moment and we need to work on that.

The report adds that Spurs are aware that they will face stiff competition to sign the highly rated 21-year-old but believe that the £25million rated star has ‘enormous potential’,

Orban has contributed 27 goals (25 goals and 2 assists) in 26 appearances across all competitions for Gent.
