Real Betis are keen on re-signing Argentine attacking midfielder Giovani Lo Celso from Tottenham Hotspur.
Lo Celso might not have a future at the North London club beyond this summer. The Argentine international is surplus to requirements at the club and with his contract running out in 12 months, they could look to sanction his departure amidst interest from one of his former clubs.
According to a report from El Mira, Real Betis are desperate to bring him back to the club and have already held ‘official meetings’ with Tottenham.
The 28-year-old attacking midfielder made the move to Tottenham back in the summer of 2019. The English club forked out a significant fee to have him at their disposal. Unfortunately, the move hasn’t gone according to plan for either party. Lo Celso has failed to establish himself in their first team and has been subject to loan moves in the recent past.
While he was a part of Ange Postecoglou’s squad for the 2023/24 season, the Argentine was way down the pecking order. He was involved in as many as 24 games but all he could manage was 597 minutes of first-team football. The lack of minutes has frustrated the player who now seeks an opportunity to revive himself.
Real Betis are all set to hand him a chance to get things back on track. The Spanish club are all set to undergo major changes in the summer and with Nabil Fekir’s future uncertain, they are looking at Lo Celso as the ideal replacement. Meanwhile, the player has a desire to make a return to his former club.
His versatility in the centre of the park is one of the major reasons why Betis want him back. They have already held meetings with Tottenham Hotspur as they look to strike a deal for the 28-year-old’s services. While the North London club’s financial demands will make things difficult for the Spanish club, they believe Lo Celso’s desire to make a return will help their cause.
