AC Milan are keen on signing Real Betis star Johnny Cardoso, but Tottenham hold an advantage in the race for his signature.
Johnny Cardoso came up the ranks at Brazilian club Internacional and made a name for himself while playing for their first team. He made the move to Europe at the start of the year to join Real Betis and hasn’t looked back since. The American defensive midfielder’s performances for the Spanish outfit have put him on the radar of top European clubs.
According to a report from Calciomercato, AC Milan are one of the clubs keen on signing the American midfielder but Tottenham have a massive advantage in the race for his services. The North London club were quite impressed with his performances for the Spanish outfit in the second half of last season.
Having parted ways with quite a few midfield stars in the summer, they were interested in the services of the 22-year-old who can play as a number six as well as a number eight. While Tottenham agreed to sell Giovani Lo Celso to Real Betis on the deadline day, they managed to negotiate a first refusal on Johnny Cardoso for the summer of 2025.
The Betis president Angel Haro has already confirmed that Spurs have a purchase option set at €25 million but as per reports, they will have to exercise it within a two-week period in June. Once it expires, the Spanish club will be free to negotiate with other interested clubs and that is where Milan could come in.
The Italian outfit have a serious interest in the American international. They feel he could be a great fit for their system and are considering making a move in the winter following Bennacer’s injury. But they will be playing the catch-up game as Spurs have a massive advantage.
