“Close to returning to first-team” – Doctor shares encouraging update on key Tottenham player in big injury boost

Tottenham Hotspur’s injury struggles this season have impacted every part of the squad, including the critical goalkeeping position.

One of the most significant setbacks has been the absence of first-choice goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, who has been sidelined since November following a collision with Savinho during a match against Manchester City. The Italian shot-stopper suffered a fractured ankle, which required surgery and has kept him out for 21 matches so far.

Fortunately, there are promising signs regarding Vicario’s recovery. Dr. Rajpal Brar, a physical therapy expert and sports scientist, recently shared an optimistic update on his rehabilitation progress.

According to Dr. Brar, Vicario is gradually increasing weight-bearing activities on his injured ankle and spending more time without the protective boot.

This stage is crucial, as it determines how well the ankle responds to added pressure.

If his recovery continues without complications, Vicario could soon be ready for competitive action, though he may need a few reserve matches before returning to full first-team duties.

Speaking to Tottenham News, the doc remarked:

“Sounds like he is progressively increasing how much weight he’s putting on the ankle and how much time he’s in a boot.

“This will be a sensitive time when you start to load and then see how he responds.

“If he responds well, then you progress to higher intensity and load.

“He does appear close to returning to first-team football and may need to play a game or two with the reserves before he’s ready to start again.“

Vicario’s return will be a welcome boost for Spurs, who have missed his presence during a challenging campaign. However, Czech goalkeeper Antonín Kinský, signed last month on a six-and-a-half-year deal for an estimated £12.5 million, has stepped up impressively in his absence.

Since making his debut in the first leg of the EFL Cup semi-final against Liverpool, Kinský has kept three clean sheets in seven appearances despite playing behind a makeshift defence. Despite making a few mistakes, his otherwise composed performances have earned praise from fans and pundits including Jamie O’Hara.

Vicario’s comeback will present manager Ange Postecoglou with a selection dilemma. While the Italian will be eager to reclaim his No. 1 spot, Kinský’s solid displays provide healthy competition for the position.

As Spurs navigate this challenging period, fans will be eager to see how the goalkeeping situation evolves.
