‘Disgrace’ – Jamie Carragher questions Tottenham tactics against ‘brilliant’ Newcastle

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur crashed to a humiliating 6-1 defeat against Newcastle United in the Premier League earlier today.

The north London giants found themselves trailing 5-0 within the first 21 minutes, and Harry Kane scored the only consolation goal for the visitors early on in the second half.

Spurs were thoroughly outplayed and Stellini’s tactics were questioned after the game.

Christian Stellini chose to employ a back four against Newcastle and former Premier League defender Jamie Carragher has questioned his decision.

Spurs have normally stuck to a back three this season, and Stellini’s decision to switch to a back four left them short of numbers and vulnerable at the back.

Furthermore, Stellini chose to use Pedro Porro and Ivan Perisic as his full-backs. While both players have done well as wing-backs this season, they struggled defensively because of the lack of cover in a back four.

Carragher branded Tottenham’s performance as a disgrace and urged the club to go out and appoint a quality manager as soon as possible.

Tottenham sacked Antonio Conte after his public outburst, criticising the players and the club hierarchy. They have decided to put Stellini in charge on an interim basis until the end of the season.

However, the results have only gotten worse, and Tottenham are now in real danger of missing out on Champions League qualification next season.

Meanwhile, Carragher also heaped praise on Newcastle for their performance and labelled them as a brilliant team.

The win over Spurs will have given Newcastle a major confidence boost, and they will now fancy their chances of finishing in the top three this season.
