‘Didn’t want to go’ – Tottenham hero claims he refused the chance to leave Spurs for Premier League rivals

By Mehdi Gokal -

Christian Eriksen admitted to Sky Sports that he ‘didn’t want to’ leave Spurs for Premier League rivals Manchester United during his time in North London.

The former Spurs talisman’s brilliant performance against Fulham got overshadowed by Alejandro Garnacho’s stoppage-time winner and Cristiano Ronaldo’s controversial interview with Piers Morgan last night.

After scoring his first goal for Manchester United, the Dane then set up Garnacho’s late winner with a stunning inch-perfect through ball.

Speaking with Sky Sports, Eriksen revealed how he rebuffed the advances of Manchester United while he was at Tottenham Hotspurs. He said:

“When I was at Spurs, there were talk (with Manchester United). But in the end it didn’t work out. At the time, I didn’t want to go.

“But, this time, I had a chance. Of course, I wanted to go. And, luckily, they wanted to (sign me) as well. When you say Manchester United, it’s different. The vibe is different.

“It’s about how big it is, how many people follow it, and how much media attention there is. It’s bigger compared to the club’s I’ve been at before.”

Eriksen, who joined Erik Ten Hag’s resurgent Manchester United on a free transfer, has undoubtedly been a steal for the club. His technical ability is unparalleled, and the valuable experience he brings to the team has made a significant difference for the club this season.

Manchester United currently sits fifth in the table, four points ahead of Liverpool and three points behind 4th place Tottenham despite having played one fewer game.
