Did You Spot The Moment Tanganga Became Lo Celso’s Minder? [video]

By The Boy -

Great to see a 20-year-old doing the right thing, whilst keeping a clear head. It’s not often you see an academy player from any side carry themselves with such authority so early in on their top flight careers.

We really do need to move on from the failed Pochettino project, but this boy has been with us since he was 10 – for goodness’ sake – how could he not get picked by any coach?

Tanganga had a solid enough game, and as per an earlier blog this morning, Japhet was on message with Mourinho and the whole wing-back thing was definitely put on ice against City.

Nevertheless, we saw 5/7 successful passes in the attacking third, including 1/1 successful pass inside the City penalty area.

  • Clearances 3
  • Blocks 1
  • Blocked crosses 2
  • Tackles won 4/5
  • Interceptions 3

Jose already knew a bit about Tanganga the minute he came because he said this is the guy who kept Ronaldo quiet in some match we played.

Let’s just leave him without labels, often unfair to young players imo.

So no RM, Utd or City in the foreseeable?
And why is it relevant?

Perhaps he wasn’t ready, only 20yo?
Don’t most managers have favourites, if indeed that was the case?
As good as he can be there is work to be done on passing accuracy.
Loved the team first approach he shows in every game.

I was also thinking Ledley Tanganga after this match. Except Japh appears to have more character than Ledders at the same age. Perhaps less shy? Can’t remember seeing a defender quite so comfortable and consistent in all defensive positions. Wonder how many season’s it’ll be before a high wage club taps him up?

Ledley the 2nd or Tang the 1st.

He’s looking like he could emulate Ledley. Quite amazing how he’s performing out of position as well

I do not believe he’ll be back. They’ll be some fairy tale about a poorly relative or the setting up of some Qatari academy of excellence.

He’s toast.

Poch had his favourites obviously.

His little break on the wing when he ran past a player and muscled his way through was a delight to watch
