Dele Alli price means that only a few clubs can afford to sign him

By Bruce Grove -

Even among Tottenham fans opinion is split over Dele Alli. Is he overhyped or is he a genuine talent on the edge of being world-class?

Depending on ones personal opinion of the 24-year-old I suspect that there will be huge variations in what is the correct value of Alli.

I can image some fans would say £20 million is a fair price based on what he has done over the last couple of seasons, whereas to others a valuation of £80 million or more can be justified.

Transfermarkt value him at 64 million euros, roughly £58.5 million and only last year, according to the Sun, Daniel Levy valued Alli at an astounding £100 million.

That tells me that Levy is not going to allow a 24-year-old with nearly four years left on his contract, that was only recently an automatic England starter and that is coveted by clubs like PSG to go for anything less than £60 million and probably a significant amount more.

Once you get to that level of valuation amid a global pandemic with clubs losing millions per week then there are only a handful of clubs that will be able to afford to sign Alli.

There are your usual suspects, PSG, Arab and Chinese clubs but then it starts to narrow.

Barcelona and Real Madrid simply do not have the money anymore, Spurs will not sell to a direct rival unless a ridiculous bid is offered so no chance Chelsea, Man Utd, Man City, Arsenal and Liverpool.

It is unlikely that Bayern Munich would be interested and the Italian clubs, including Juventus, appear to only be interested in loan deals or lower end transfers.

Could Alli be sold this summer? Of course he can but it will be for a fair whack and that alone makes me feel that he is not going anywhere.

Transfermarkt usually go on the low side of valuations. Chelsea today paid over £20m for a new keeper Mendy who was valued by Transfermarkt at £6.3m.
