‘definitely one to watch’: Tottenham tipped to complete easy deal for 22-year-old target

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for Everton midfielder James Garner.

The 22-year-old has been quite impressive for Everton this season and it will be interesting to see if the Toffees can hold onto him beyond this season.

They are currently fighting the relegation battle and if they go down to the Championship, they could find it difficult to hold onto their best players.

Tottenham are looking to add more quality and depth in the middle of the park and Garner has been identified as one of the potential targets. Former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson believes that it would be an easy deal to complete because of Everton’s FFP problems.

The Toffees need to balance the books and they could be under pressure to sell their key players if a substantial offer is presented. In addition to that, Garner could be tempted to remain in the top flight if Everton end up getting relegated this season.

However, Robinson believes that Garner is not good enough to take them to the next level and he is just a decent player.

Speaking to Tottenham News he said: “He’s stood out in a struggling Everton side. I think he’s played particularly well this season. But you look at the Tottenham side, you look at the way that they play, and you question where he would fit into that side.

“Whether he would be deployed as an attacking midfielder or whether he would sit, I know that he can do both, but then you look at the players that they’ve got and do you see him as an improvement to the squad?

“The Garner one could be an easy one to do due to Everton’s predicament with the FFP. Everton’s situation with the points [deduction], Everton could well be easy pickings come the end of the season for the bigger vultures.

“And deals might be more attractive to be done for their players, especially if they’re in the Championship.

“That’s definitely one to watch, but I just don’t see where he fits into this Spurs starting XI. He’s a decent player but if you’re going to that next level I’m not so sure he takes you there.”

Tottenham have been linked with the Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher as well.

It is evident that they are looking to bring in a quality central midfielder and it remains to be seen who they end up signing eventually.

They are currently pushing for Champions League qualification and they are well placed to finish in the top four. A return to the Champions League would give them more resources to work with and they would be an attractive destination for players as well.
