Darren Bent has urged Tottenham Hotspur to follow Arsenal’s lead when it comes to the future of Ange Postecoglou.

The Australian coach has divided opinion since arriving from Celtic in June 2023.

Tottenham have made moves to sign 26-year-old Man United and Newcastle target!

Spurs climbed from eighth to fifth in Postecoglou’s first season in charge, returning to the Europa League after a year away from continental action.

However, the Lilywhites blew numerous opportunities to finish in the top four.

This season, despite playing some exciting attacking football, Spurs have failed to find any consistency and suffer defensive collapses with alarming regularity.

Tottenham currently sit 11th in the Premier League and are already 11 points adrift of the top four, with fans split on whether Postecoglou deserves to keep his job or not.

In Postecoglou’s defence, Spurs have suffered from chronic injury problems over the past 18 months, often dealing with 10 or more players on the treatment table.

Former Spurs striker Bent — who scored 25 goals in 79 appearances for the Lilywhites — believes the club should look to the example set by arch-rivals Arsenal when they backed Mikel Arteta despite initial struggles in the league.

“Do you start again? Remember, they’d had Jose [Mourinho], who’s been one of the best, they’ve had [Antonio] Conte, who’s been one of the best, they’d have Nuno [Espirito Santo], [Mauricio] Pochettino obviously, people still talk about those years,” Bent told Ben Foster’s The Cycling Goalkeeper YouTube channel (via Spurs Web).

He added: “They’ve now got Ange [Postecoglou], they can’t now start again. I liken it to Arsenal, I know, obviously, the rivalry. Arteta comes in, I know he obviously got the success with the FA Cup, if you look at their league form, he went eighth to eighth and they still stuck with him even though the fans turned a little bit.”
