Former Tottenham scout Bryan King has slammed Daniel Levy for the way he has handled the contract situation of skipper Heung-min Son.

The South Korean striker is on his last year of his Tottenham contract, with his current deal expiring in the summer. However, the club does have an option to trigger a one-year extension to his current deal, which Tottenham are expected to do so.

However, Son’s long-term future at the club remains uncertain, with there being no concrete talks regarding a new deal as yet.

There is no shortage of interest in the South Korean. Saudi Pro League have been long interested in bringing Son to the Saudi and most recently, Turkish giants Galatasaray have also expressed a strong interest in the striker.

According to a recent report from Turkish outlet Fanatik, Galatasaray are lining up a move to sign the 32-year-old as replacement to former Chelsea star Hakim Ziyech.

The report adds that while a move will not be easy, if the European heavyweights are successful in securing his services, it would “make a splash all over the world”.

King slams Tottenham’s handling of Son’s contract situation

Bryan King has expressed his annoyance at the club for the way they have handled the contract situation of their biggest star, claiming that a one-year extension is the least the club can do for Son.

Speaking to Tottenham News, he said:

“Son’s contract situation should have been sorted three months ago,”

“The option is there to extend for a year, the player is there, you know what he has done for the football club. A one-year extension? That is the least Tottenham could do.”

“I think it is poor business that they have let it go on as long as they have. This deal should have been done, and Son’s future should have been guaranteed.”

“He is a great asset, both on the pitch and off it. You think about every game Spurs play at home, there are always a lot of people from South Korea who come to watch him, that must be good business.

“I’d imagine that Spurs might be selling as many shirts in South Korea as they are in England.”

Heung-min Son: A fan favourite at Tottenham

Since joining the club in 2015, Son has went on to become one of the best players at the club and a big fan favourite at Tottenham Hotspur. He has played over 400 games for the club across all competitions, scoring 165 and assisting 87.

He has stepped up as a leader after Harry Kane’s departure to Bayern Munich, after being named the captain by Ange Postecoglou.

This season, he has struggled with his fitness, having missed several games through injuries in the early parts of the campaign so far. It is suggested that his current fitness issues is one of the reasons, the club is reconsidering giving him a new deal.

Levy will certainly face backlash from fans if he decides to cash in on him in the summer, especially given that the club sold Harry Kane just last summer and is yet to properly replace him.
