Cristiano Giuntoli: Napoli will go forward, with or without Milik

By Joe Fish -

Arkadiusz Milik will be allowed to leave Napoli this summer if he does not sign a new contract, the club’s Sporting Director has told Sky Sports Italia.

Italian journalist Nicolo Schria tweeted in May that Milik remains firmly on Tottenham’s radar as the painful search for Harry Kane support rolls on.

The 26-year-old forward is out of contract in June 2021 and Tuttosport revealed last week that talks over an extension had reached a dead end.

Napoli’s transfer chief Cristiano Giuntoli has admitted the Serie A side want to keep Milik who has scored 12 goals in 22 matches this season but would have no choice but to put him up for sale if he doesn’t pen new terms.

Giuntoli told Sky Sports Italia, relayed by Football Italia: “The desire is to renegotiate his contract, so we are talking with his agents.

“The objective is to resolve the situation, one way or another. If he doesn’t want to remain, then he will go on to the transfer market.

“Players can remain as long as they do so with the right mentality. Napoli will go forward, with or without Milik.”

Milik fits the bill perfectly for Spurs who may be hoping to capitalise on the Pole’s contract situation as they allegedly are with Southampton’s Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. But would he be content playing second fiddle to Kane?

We need a second striker, not just back up to Kane. Most if not all clubs have at least 2, we used to have 4.
