Atletico Madrid are reportedly interested in signing the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
The 27-year-old has been a key player for the London club since joining them from Southampton, but it seems that the newly appointed manager Ange Postecoglou is prepared to part ways with him.
Apparently, the Denmark international is not a good fit for his style of play and Atletico Madrid are prepared to provide him with an exit route.
A report from TuttoMercatoWeb claims that the Spanish outfit are working hard to secure his services and ‘contacts are underway’ between the two parties. The transfer is reportedly a ‘work in progress’.
It will be interesting to see if they can agree on a fee with Tottenham. The North London giants are unlikely to let him leave for cheap and Atletico Madrid will have to pay a substantial amount of money for him.
The 27-year-old has proven his quality in the Premier League over the years, and he should also prove to be a quality acquisition for the Spanish club. The Denmark international has the technical attributes and physicality to thrive in the Spanish league and he could be a key player for Diego Simeone next season.
Hojbjerg has been one of the first names on the team sheet for Tottenham this past season and the London club will have to replace him adequately. It remains to be seen whether Postecoglou can find a quality alternative to the Denmark international, especially without the lure of Champions League football.
