Tottenham Hotspur signed Mathys Tel on loan from Bayern Munich during the January transfer window, and they have an option to make the move permanent for £45 million.

According to football consultant Keith Wyness, Tottenham are unlikely to make the move permanent in the summer. He added that Ange Postecoglou’s days are numbered at the club, and Tel is in a similar situation.

Wyness said: “He hasn’t exactly covered himself in glory on the pitch, from what I’ve seen.

“It’s one of those – he may well go back to Bayern Munich.

“It was a clever move to do a loan deal instead of an emergency transfer, as we’ve seen so many clubs make mistakes before.

“I personally think he will not end up in the Spurs shirt next season.”

The French attacker has not been able to live up to the expectations in the Premier League, and his performances have been underwhelming. In addition to that, a report from Football Insider claims that Tottenham do not plan to pay the £45 million asking price for him either.

Spurs will need to replace Mathys Tel

It will be interesting to see if Tottenham decide to sign a replacement for him in the summer. They need more quality and depth in the wide areas. Along with the £80k-a-week Frenchman, Timo Werner will also leave the club upon the expiry of his loan deal.

Richarlison has not been at his best, and Spurs need more options at their disposal. Signing a quality wide player should be a priority for them in the summer.

It has been a disappointing season for Tottenham, and they will look to bounce back strongly. They need to improve their squad in the summer and plug the weaknesses on the side. They must look to invest in a dynamic attacker capable of adding goals and creativity to the side.
