Confirmed Tottenham team to face Newcastle United

By Bruce Grove -

Tottenham comes into this game today on the back of three consecutive wins, including an impressive 5-2 away win over Southampton.

Newcastle United have had a mixed start beating West Ham 2-0 but then losing their very next Premier League game 3-0 to Brighton.

The Geordies also had a 7-0 over Morecambe in the Carabao Cup midweek and even though it was against very limited opposition it will still be a win that has lifted the spirits at the club.

If Tottenham plays to their ability they will win and win comfortably but you never know which Spurs team will turn up.

Newcastle will not be walkovers, we know that from last season but this is all down to Tottenham, the win is there for the taking.

This is the team Jose Mourinho has gone with. Do you agree with his selection? Let us know in the comments below.

There is no conspiracy to keep elite clubs at the top. If so, Newcastle wouldn’t get the penalty. If a team plays well and takes its chances they get their reward. WBA and Leicester showed that. The handball rule is a joke, the media have repeatedly shown Hodgson’s, Bruce’s and Jose’s reaction across the globe. The rule will be scrutinised and criticised on Sky, BT and MOTD as well as every sport related radio station. Is that not an ‘outcry’? If Sky had ignored the controversy I would be inclined to agree, but they haven’t. This handball rule is not going away, it will be in the news every week.

There was no mistake dier put in a shift today if it was toby we would be screaming his praises if you cant use your arms for balance or leverage whilst jumping without risking a pen then the advantage is with the attacker

Wow. You really are blaming Spurs being one nil up for what happened. Quite extraordinary.

Whether you like or disagree with the new rules, all the clubs were appraised of them? You cannot hope to hang onto a 1-0 lead.We should have put the game out of sight by halftime. We were the architects of our own demise.

Most fans say that if they’re only winning 1-0 towards the end of a match.

And, as for – “no problem for teams that can defend” – idiot goal aside we had a clean sheet. What more do you want from our defence, fewer than zero goals?

?!! You mystify me. I’ve seen similar idiot pens given against
players who didn’t turn their back: Sissoko in the CL final is one that comes to mind. Back turning is in no way the problem, especially for a central defender going up for a header while facing the direction the ball’s coming from, as he should.

5Live at half time commentator said I’m getting tweets from Spurs fans that 1-0 won’t be enough as Newcastle will score.

1-0 is no problem for teams that can defend, we have yet to show we can defend especially with a centre back who believes if you turn your back on the ball you’re thereby absolved of all responsibility. He’d already turned his back and the ball hit his arm and he got away with it. Doesn’t seem to learn from his mistakes Eric.

We surely can’t start arguing that winning 1-0 is now a recipe for deserving not to win because of idiot penalties? Teams have won trophies based of plenty of 1-0 wins. They’re an integral part of the game. Being only 1-0 up when toon were handed a goal by the authorities wasn’t the problem; the toon’s cheap goal on a silver platter is the problem.

I don’t think that there will be a media outcry unfortunately, since most have preferences for the Sky Cabal clubs. ‘Smaller’ clubs will continue to get sh@t upon in favour of those ‘elite’ clubs. Seems to be the FA’s ‘natural order’ of things.

In terms of a ‘punishment’ yes, there will be no fines etc, but the media outcry across all leagues will force their hand to change. Any criticism should be aimed at FIFA, not the referees.

For me, if an attacker heads or kicks the ball at a player who’s back is turned it should never be a foul, short of the defender doing a star jump and it hits his arm.

Surprised Mourinho started Son. In the Ropey after match comments, someone said Son was dead on his feet by the end of the game. Sounds like he needed a rest.

At the end of the day we should have won handsomely given the chances created.By the time they got the dubious penalty it should have been a mere consolation. We have to learn to kill teams off it’s as simple as that.

The issue with this rule is clear as day when the game is at 0-1 for any team…you could be playing a pub team and the coach just tells them to hit the ball in the box and hope for a penalty, theres no skill involved….

Refs are simply following the rules put in front of them. The lawmakers are accountable in this. They have tried to make the handball rule clearer, but in reality it is a joke. Most teams will suffer due to this at some stage. We lost a Ch Lg final because of it! Administrators who have not played the game should stay well away from footballing matters. Bit like Levy!

It won’t matter who they use because the current law removes any intent from a hand ball decision. I agree that ex-players would be able to spot whether there was intent or not but that has been rendered irrelevant. Now we have arguments over shirt cuffs – short sleeve vs long sleeve – because the ball can hit the arm above the sleeve cuff and not be deemed hand ball. So presumably you can intentionally use your upper arm to block a goal bound shot under the current rules. This now makes sense as to how your armpit hair can be offside.

Catastrophically stupid result. Completely undeserved draw for toon. VAR
is a fine idea made to look bad by cretinous rules & decision
making. As if this season wasn’t diminished enough by no crowds, it’s
also becoming a ludicrous waste of time. Perhaps the players & fans
should find something better to do and matches could be decided by
tossing a coin. What a silly state of affairs.

That comment is as ridiculous as the ‘handball’ decision. When you go up for a header you have to be facing where the ball is coming from, just the same as the attacker, so if you’re in front of the attacker as you should be, if he heads the ball you’re bound to have your back to him. No one jumps with their arms by their side, so of course your arms are out. The ball was headed at point blank range into the arm of Dier while he was facing the other way. How is he supposed to see it coming or adjust to avoid contact. Dier did nothing wrong, the decision was ridiculous.

Much better than the last time we played them, but the cold hard facts is we have dropped 2 points. We have to be more clinical. We look ponderous in attack, when it should be simple. Attack the space and shoot! So easy😁😁😁

I totally agree. Today’s performance was much better than the post Lockdown encounter against this sorry bunch, yet we won that and have been well and truly stiffed by a ridiculous rule. At 1-0 a game is far from over. We should have put these to the sword. I liked Ndombele today, but Bergwijn looked lost……again. He needs to play on the right for me.
