Confirmed Tottenham starting XI against Arsenal – Lloris and Alderweireld start

By Bruce Grove -

Not long to go now before the North London derby kicks off and Jose Mourinho has announced the team he believes will pick up all three points this afternoon against that lot.

If this game was to be decided purely on form and quality of players then Spurs should win it comfortably but as we all know, North London derbies are never so straight forward.

This game is going to be won with attitude, determination, calmness and having that cutting edge. Also, the managers will play a role in terms of strategy and tactics and you have to feel that Mourinho has the edge over the Arsenal manager in that area.

Well, looking at the team that Jose has gone with, I am confident that these players will do enough to pick up the win.

Let us know in the comments below what you think to the team and what your predicted score is.

True, one more it’s done – this won’t be another West Ham

He’s pretty tidy going forward but when defending I’ve always found him a bit like Verts & Daws when they were up against a fast forward or winger.

The difference with this side and Jose’s classic Chelsea side is certain games they would simply overpower the opposition, knock a bottom three side for 5 or 6 – the oppo weren’t even close.

I think once everyone is in top form, your Ndombles, Lo Celsos, Bergwijns and Bales – then you might see us just monster sides.

Imagine our front four attacking players were all as sharp as Son and Kane. We’d score at least twice as many goals.

I will say I think the bottom sides were possibly weaker back then, teams all have a bit more money to keep their best players. I mean, Sheff Utd, they aren’t a bad side, well organised, tough to beat. They’re bottom, so a tougher league.

I found myself daydreaming and thinking about what to get the wife for Chrim. I almost got up to go and make a cuppa at about 70 minutes; and during one of the daydreams I heard ar*e fans singing “Boring boring Tottenham”. All true.

A great way to preserve our energy levels, in that, if we don’t run in the second half then no one will get fatigued. Harry Kane v Chelsea and Arsenal has only played one game. Under Poch he would have played v LASK and in doing so run himself in to the ground for 270 minutes. He’d have scored 5 but we would have lost v Chelsea, drawn to Arsenal and buried the Austrians.
Very comfortable against an Arsenal team that is very poor (I do love how those tables have turned). I am definitely not an advocate of not trying to score (because we have already scored 2) but I can see what Jose is doing. Boring, Yes. Effective, too right it is. Please do not tell me that watching us defend in that second half was poetry and it got you so excited it brought your own Rodon!

Well at least Bale knows that he has to up his game to get a gameThat was a tough watch in the second half though. It will be interesting to see what happens when we play teams that park the bus against us?

No shock. As soon as it was two at half time you knew the tactic would be “don’t concede” cost us against West ham. When you have someone on the ropes, you don’t back off and hope to win on points.

I’d get Lo Celso off for 2 reason’s; he’s not really at the races, and he’s a red card waiting to happen due to his clumsiness & the a*se will be falling at his feet with every touch.

This smacks of Mourinho sending out a message to someone in his own inimitable way, in this particular episode I think it’s aimed at Gareth in letting him know he doesn’t think your ready yet to start such a game. Mourinho has his own almost unique attitude towards players, and I don’t think he takes long to judge whether he can work with one or not, in Bale’s case I think he is obviously looking for more. I do think he will give him time though, unlike others of whom he has already decided upon.

For me it is simple if we win today it’s a guaranteed top 4 finish at worst with the chance of winning the league. If we lose, everything Mourinho has built here will need to start from scratch. 3-1 Spurs is my prediction. We need a big performance from Lo Celso today as well.
