Collymore compares Kane with Defoe and reckons he doesn’t have the X-Factor

By Bruce Grove -

Stan Collymore admits that Harry Kane is very talented and that the Englishman is probably the best striker in his generation, but he doesn’t think that Kane has the X-Factor.

The former striker who played for the likes of Liverpool and Leicester City claims that Kane might be the most consistent striker of his generation and the most talented English striker of his generation, but that doesn’t mean that he is comparable to the likes of Thierry Henry.

He claimed that if there was a left-hand side and right-hand side to categorize the top goalscorers in the Premier League, he will not put Kane on the left-hand side with the likes of Frank Lampard, rather, the England captain will come in at the right-hand side with the likes of Jermaine Defoe.

He claimed that Kane’s goal is yet to help Spurs win trophies so he cannot be classed with those top scorers.

He writes on Mirror Football: “But just because someone has reached a particular landmark, it doesn’t automatically mean they should be compared with others who have reached it as well.

And if Alan Shearer, Thierry Henry, Andrew Cole, Robbie Fowler and Frank Lampard, who was the best goalscoring midfielder of his generation, are on the left-hand side of the top 10 Premier League goalscorers of all time, then I’d be putting Kane on the right-hand sides alongside Jermain Defoe.

“Now, Defoe is in the top 10 because he was consistent over a number of years but we’d never talk about him with the same reverence we’d talk about the other five I’ve mentioned.

“And the same goes for Kane, because I just don’t think he has the same X-factor they all had.

Certainly, his goals haven’t been influential and instrumental in his team winning major trophies like theirs were.

Cole’s helped Manchester United to five Premier League titles and a Treble, Lampard’s helped Chelsea win Premier Leagues, a Champions League, Europa League, FA Cups and League Cups, and Fowler won trophies at Liverpool and had an incredible goals-to-games ratio.”

This is a bigger load of tosh than what Merson was spouting, surely. That was an ill-informed prediction but this is just offensive. If I was Kane I’d be fuming. Not that his opinion matters all that much but to think supposedly ‘informed’ people like Collymore who played the game can spout this nonsense… If anything, scoring numbers that obliterate most of those mentioned in a team that doesn’t win things is even more impressive. What a gimp.

Collymore evidently has a greater talent for abusing women, than as either a footballer or a pundit. The fact that he is employed by the media in any capacity is a sorry indictment of contemporary journalistic integrity and values.

Collymore is deliberately objectionable. He loves being controversial. Like Chris Sutton and Robbie Savage, it’s best to ignore these walkies.

Collymore is a complete and utter t*sser who was better known for abusing his then girlfriend, Ulrika Johnsson, than he was as either a player or a pundit, where he was equally mediocre at both.

Cole and Fowler aren’t fit to hold Harry Kane’s jock strap, as an all round player, let alone be placed above him. Shearer and Henry however, are deservedly at a similar level and Lampard also, as his goal scoring record was astonishing for a midfielder.

Kane is Shearer and Sheringham in one near enough.

Collymore rates Defoe the same? Defoe had pace, a great finish, and to his credit he’d get stuck in…but whole games could pass him by and he could hardly change things up. A lot of his effectiveness came down to who he was paired with and you could say the whole system needed to be built to supply him.

Kane can and does switch things up, you could argue he’s already had to reinvent himself due to injuries/age and if anything is even more effective in terms of making key contributions to help the side win now.

I think I need to stop listening to Collymore at all…first the nonsense suggesting Spurs should have brought in a load of bargain loan players for the same money as Bale, now Kane doesn’t have the X Factor. Tripe.
