Club sees offer rejected for Premier League midfielder with 4 goal contributions in 10 appearances

Tottenham have reportedly turned down a loan offer from Barcelona for Argentine midfielder Giovani Lo Celso.

The Spanish giants have been interested in the Spurs’ midfielder Giovani Lo Celso since the summer. Xavi is said to be a huge admirer of the player and wanted him to replace the departing Sergio Busquets in the summer.

While a deal could not be reached then, Barca continue to pursue him this month.

According to The Independent, Barcelona are eager to secure the services of the 27-year-old. This interest stems from the Blaugranas’ requirement for a short-term solution in their midfield.

Barcelona’s teenage midfield talent, Gavi, is currently sidelined due to a cruciate ligament tear, which is expected to keep him out of action until the end of this season.

To fill the void left by Gavi’s absence, the club seeks a temporary solution within their budget, with Lo Celso emerging as a potential candidate along with Kalvin Phillips.

The report claims that in search of a short-term midfield solution, the Catalonian club submitted what is described as a ‘low-ball’ loan bid for Lo Celso. But Spurs turned down the offer, citing that the loan terms and wage arrangement fell significantly short of their expectations.

Despite the limited playing time, Lo Celso has stepped up in the absence of James Maddison and put in solid performances.

In 10 league appearances this season, he has four goal contributions, scoring two goals and providing two assists.

While Spurs might consider allowing the player to leave, Barcelona’s low-ball offers have failed to persuade the club to entertain the possibility.
