Tottenham summer signing Wilson Odobert has been out with an injury for quite some time now and club insider John Wenham has now expressed his frustration over the player’s fitness.
The club signed the young winger in the summer to bolster their attacking options, with Ange revealing that the Frenchman was one player he was really keen on signing.
And he showed why the manager was so interested in signing him with his impressive start at Spurs. However, half-way through September, he suffered a hamstring injury during Tottenham’s win against Coventry City in the League Cup.
The Frenchman made a brief comeback in late October against AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League, but a subsequent setback has extended his recovery timeline. Postecoglou confirmed that Odobert’s recent injury will keep him out for a longer period, compounding Tottenham’s ongoing fitness issues in their attacking lineup.
Tottenham insider John Wenham on Wilson Odebert situation
Speaking to Tottenham News, Wenham expressed his disappointment over the player’s injury struggles, suggesting that the club spent a significant amount on a player who has largely been unavailable for them.
He also expressed his concerns regarding the development of Mikey Moore, suggesting that he sees the signing of the Burnley man as a hindrance to Moore’s pathway into the first-team.
He said:
“I’m very frustrated about the Odobert injury situation.”
“We spent a fair bit on him in the summer and we haven’t seen much from him at all. It just seems at the moment like he is going to be a blocker for Mikey Moore’s pathway further down the line.
“I know these injuries aren’t his fault, but I’m disappointed with the entire situation. We’ve spent all this money on somebody who is constantly unavailable.
“We’ve seen how frustrating that can be with the likes of Giovani Lo Celso and Richarlison. Therefore, once Odobert is back, hopefully, he is available till the end of the season.”
Odobert joined Tottenham following an impressive debut season with Burnley, where he contributed four goals and three assists in 33 appearances. Prior to his move to England, he rose through the ranks at Paris Saint-Germain’s academy, recording 16 goals and four assists in 24 games for their U19 side.
His absence is particularly concerning for Spurs, who are already dealing with limited attacking options. Richarlison is once again sidelined with an injury suffered during win against Aston Villa, and Timo Werner has struggled to find form, placing increased pressure on Tottenham’s forward line.
Should Odobert make a successful return, his presence would provide a much-needed boost as the club continues its campaign on multiple fronts.
