Yves Bissouma’s future at Tottenham is under scrutiny following recent off-field issues that have raised concerns within the club.
The Malian international, who has been a key figure in Tottenham’s midfield under Ange Postecoglou, finds his long-term prospects with the club uncertain after being involved in a controversial incident.
Bissouma received a one-match suspension from Tottenham after a video surfaced showing him inhaling nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas, just days before the Premier League season began. The incident sparked significant criticism, with many questioning the midfielder’s judgment and professionalism.
John Wenham, a prominent Spurs insider and host of the Lilywhite Rose podcast, has been vocal about the potential impact of Bissouma’s actions on his future at the club.
Wenham expressed disappointment over Bissouma’s behaviour, calling it a “stupid” error that has raised questions about his future with the team. He believes that this incident may have put his long-term future at the club in danger.
Speaking to Tottenham News, the club insider said:
“I think these antics have put his career in danger. He won’t be sold this window, I think it is too late. However, in the long term, he will only be contracted with Tottenham until 2026.”
“Therefore, I think his Spurs career is in the balance. From everything I read, it seemed like Ange Postecoglou was counting on Bissouma as one of the more senior players in the squad.”
“He is coming into his third year as a Spurs player now and he is still making these stupid mistakes. It wasn’t as if someone filmed him, he actually filmed himself.”
“It’s just incredible that he would be that stupid to do something like that in this day and age.”
Despite the controversy, it is unlikely that Bissouma will be sold this season. However, the incident has reportedly caused manager Ange Postecoglou to reconsider Bissouma’s role as a senior member of the squad.
The 27-year-old had been expected to play a pivotal role in Postecoglou’s plans, especially as he enters his third year at Tottenham.
However, Bissouma redeemed himself on the field by scoring a stunning goal against Everton to help Spurs win 4-0.
As Bissouma looks to secure his place in Postecoglou’s plans, maintaining focus and professionalism will be essential.
The midfielder’s contract with Tottenham runs until 2026, but his future at the club remains uncertain in light of recent events. Whether Bissouma can regain the trust of his manager and teammates will be crucial in determining his long-term role at Spurs.
