Champions League Algebra Explained

The outcome of tonight’s big Champions League game have unwittingly deteriorated into one of those maths puzzlers one used to try and avoid as kid. ‘If it takes 3 men 2 days to dig a hole with …’

It is a tad complicated, but if you observe the bolded parts below, you shouldn’t go too far wrong.

Mind you, if you’re watching a broadcast with an English commentary

My thanks to PA Sport for this handy guide.

Because Spurs are ahead on head to head record, they need only to match Inter’s outcome in the final round of games. So that means…

If Inter draw with PSV, Spurs must at least draw.

If Inter are beaten, Spurs are through regardless of how they fare.

Unfortunately for Spurs, PSV have so far picked up just a single point, so the smart money seems to be on an Inter Milan win.

That, of course, would mean Spurs must beat Barcelona at the Nou Camp tonight to progress.

Simple, eh?
