Lyall Thomas who writes for Sky Sports and occasionally appears on fan podcasts has told The Last Word On Spurs that Guglielmo Vicario was not the club’s second choice, at all.
For a good many weeks, David Raya was the main name discussed and The Times amongst many ran a piece where the ‘keeper commented on speculation he might leave The Bees, this summer, and prior to this in May, Spurs were tipped by another national paper as Raya’s next club.
What followed for many weeks, was speculation that Tottenham didn’t want to pay £40 million for the home-grown talent.
HH Says: Well, it’s my understanding that all these journalists are fed directly by the Tottenham Hotspur press office.
Certainly, during the reign of ENIC nobody from that department has ever acknowledged anything negative in public at least; it’s not how these elements of a business are designed to function.
‘How is the goalkeeper settling in?’
‘Not too bad, but as you know, we had our hearts set on a different one.’
Additionally, it was clear from the wide range of media coverage in the UK the Brentford Goalie was getting when Spurs were talking to him, that it was coming from numerous, reliable sources.
What we do know, is that Vicario is a talented keeper and bound to be an upgrade on the increasingly unreliable Hugo Lloris. Guglielmo will certainly have to get used to the division, and that was one reason that Tottenham would have been attracted to the Brentford keeper first.
