Ange Postecoglou has assured Brennan Johnson he will find his way back into the Tottenham Hotspur team soon.
Johnson has enjoyed a prolific season, notching 10 goals and three assists in 26 appearances across all competitions.
“They hurt” – James Maddison fires message to Spurs supporters!
However, the Wales international is without a goal in his last six appearances across all competitions and has found himself reduced to a bench role in his last three.
Even in 32 minutes, Johnson managed an assist as Spurs fell 6-3 to Liverpool on Sunday.
In Premier League play alone, Johnson has eight direct goal involvements (6g, 2a), with only Dominic Solanke (9), Son Heung-min (11) and James Maddison (12) managing more.
Brennan Johnson to get more chances soon
Many will find Johnson’s relegation to the bench harsh given he’s been one of Tottenham’s most dangerous players this season.
However, when asked about the winger’s situation in a Christmas Eve press conference, Postecoglou assured Johnson he will be back in the starting line-up soon and that he’s simply trying to avoid any more injuries to a ravaged squad.
“Brennan just needs to keep doing what he’s doing,” Postecoglou told reporters (via Football.London). “I’ve had Deki (Dejan Kulusevski) there and he’s done really well and scoring goals.
“It’s about the balance of the team. It’s about managing that load. We’re already overburdening some of the players up there. Brennan will get his minutes.”
Ahead of the Boxing Day clash with Nottingham Forest, Postecoglou has also confirmed Destiny Udogie is now ready to feature after only making the bench against Liverpool — with Spurs getting another suspension-related boost.
“From the [Liverpool] game, as far as I’m aware no issues,” he said. “Destiny was on the bench but wasn’t 100% quite right and should be right. Bentancur is available after his suspension. That’s kind of it for now.”
