Watch: Brennan Johnson with a brilliant finish to make it 2-1 after some great work from Kulusevski

Brennan Johnson has made it 2-1 with a brilliant finish moments after Heung-min Son’s penalty miss.

Son had a golden opportunity to give Spurs the lead after Spurs were awarded a penalty but Wolves keeper denied him from the spot with a great save.

But Spurs took the lead minutes later. Dejan Kulusevski was excellent once again in the buildup as he set up Johnson who made no mistake with the finish, blasting past the goalkeeper from close range.

Tottenham go into the break with a 2-1 lead.

Brennan Johnson’s season so far at Tottenham

Johnson made a terrific start to his Spurs career after joining from Nottingham Forest in September 2023 for £47.5 million, scoring five goals and ten assists in his debut season.

The 2024–2025 saw Johnson’s resurgence, particularly after a challenging start that included online abuse following a loss to Arsenal in September, which forced him to deactivate his social media accounts. He responded by scoring in seven consecutive matches, silencing his critics and asserting his growing importance to the team.

He has made 19 appearances so far in the league this season, scoring 7 and assisting 2. Across all competitions, he has scored 11 and assisted 3 in 28 across all competitions.

Despite this impressive streak, recent matches have seen Johnson’s role diminish, with manager Ange Postecoglou favouring Dejan Kulusevski due to his strong performances.

However, when asked about the winger’s situation in a recent press conference, Postecoglou assured Johnson he will be back in the starting line-up soon and that he’s simply trying to avoid any more injuries to a ravaged squad.

“Brennan just needs to keep doing what he’s doing,”

“I’ve had Deki (Dejan Kulusevski) there and he’s done really well and scoring goals.

“It’s about the balance of the team. It’s about managing that load. We’re already overburdening some of the players up there. Brennan will get his minutes.”

And Johnson did not disappoint when given a start today, however, despite his contributions, Spurs could not pick up a win.
