Blow for Tottenham: Top summer target prefers Chelsea move over Spurs

Tottenham have been strongly linked with a move for Brentford striker Ivan Toney this summer.

The club wants to sign a top class striker to fill the void left by the departure of Harry Kane, and Toney is said to be among the top targets.

However, they may have dealt a blow in their pursuit of the Premier League striker.

As per the latest from Football Insider,Toney reportedly favours a move to Chelsea, over joining Tottenham.

According to Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the England international is keen on a move to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea view Toney as a feasible signing due to his relatively modest price tag of £40 million.

The 28-year-old is entering the final year of his contract with Brentford, which is set to expire in June of the following year.

The Bees are likely to sell their seasoned striker this summer to fetch a transfer fee close to his market value of €50 million, rather than risk losing him for free next year.

Toney had an impressive 2022/23 campaign in the Premier League, netting 20 goals in 33 league appearances, making him the third-highest goalscorer in the division, trailing only Erling Haaland and Harry Kane.

He would indeed by a fine addition to the a Tottenham team, and losing him, specially to their London rivals would be a significant blow.
