Blow for Tottenham as player strongly linked with a move to Spurs says ‘yes’ to another club

By Mehdi Gokal -

Long term Tottenham target Conor Gallagher has agreed to join La Liga heavyweights Atletico Madrid.

The Chelsea midfielder has been linked with a move to Tottenham for the last two transfer windows with Ange Postecoglou showing strong interest in signing him.

Despite persistent interest this summer, no official move was made by the North London club.

It was being reported that they might make a last minute move to hijack the deal after Atletico Madrid had made an offer for him.

But it appears now that they are no longer pursuing Gallagher with the midfielder also saying yes to the Spanish side.

As per the latest from transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the Chelsea captain has agreed to a move to Atletico Madrid.

A fee of €40m has been agreed between the two clubs, with Romano giving the deal his trademark ‘here we go’.

He shared the update on X:

“EXCLUSIVE: Conor Gallagher has verbally agreed terms and said YES to join Atlético Madrid! ‘Here we go’ to follow today after formal steps, five year deal”

This officially ends the links with Tottenham as they will now look at alternate options.

With the start of the Premier League season just a few weeks away, it remains to be seen whether Spurs can bolster the midfield with a top player timely.
