Tottenham Hotspur have struggled big time in the final stretch of the season, losing 5 out of their last 6 Premier League games.
As a result, Spurs missed the chance to secure a coveted Champions League spot, failing to capitalise on Aston Villa’s inconsistent form.
4th-placed Villa stands 5 points ahead of the Lilywhites going into the final matchday.
Ange Postecoglou hopes to finish the campaign on a high note as Tottenham takes on Sheffield United at Bramall Lane this Sunday.
The North London outfit must secure at least a draw in this weekend’s fixture, or they risk missing out on a Europa League spot too. Their city rivals, Chelsea, are just 3 points behind in 6th place and could overtake them.
However, Tottenham might be without midfielder Giovani Lo Celso for the final round.
The Argentine midfielder appeared as a substitute in Spurs’ recent 0-2 midweek loss against Manchester City, entering the game in the 85th minute.
Providing an update on Lo Celso’s fitness in the pre-match press conference ahead of the Sheffield trip, Ange Postecoglou mentioned that the midfielder is a doubt due to a knock from his last appearance.
As quoted by Alasdair Gold on Football.London, the Australian head coach stated that Lo Celso missed training today but will have another opportunity to participate in tomorrow’s session.
Postecoglou indicated that the rest of the squad is recovering well from the City fixture, with no new injuries reported. This suggests a likelihood of a similar squad selection for the upcoming game.
He said:
“The only one that’s a doubt is Gio [Lo Celso]. He got a bit of a knock when he came on and didn’t train today. But we train again tomorrow obviously.
“Everyone else is still a little bit recovering from the game but nothing that will keep them out so a similar squad to the last game.”
