Blow for Spurs as new signing gets hit with a ban by FA

By Mehdi Gokal -

Richarlison signed for Tottenham in a mega £60m transfer as part of Antnio Conte’s summer spending spree, however Spurs fans will have to wait a little longer to see the new star in action.

The Football Association release a statement today of their decision to ban the Brazilian for one game following the infamous flare incident last season against Chelsea. Richarlison who had just scored a crucial match winning goal for Everton rushed over to the home fans, picked up a blue flare and threw it back into the crowd. The incident had probed an investigation by the FA who have now given a verdict to fine him along with a one-match ban.

The FA statement said:

“An independent Regulatory Commission has suspended Richarlison de Andrade for one match and fined him £25,000 following a breach of FA Rule E3 that took place during a Premier League game on Sunday 1 May 2022.

“The Tottenham Hotspur FC forward admitted that his conduct while playing for Everton FC during the 46th minute of this game against Chelsea FC was improper, and his sanction was imposed during a subsequent hearing.”

This means that the Brazilian will miss Spurs’ opening day fixture vs Southampton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. However, Tottenham fans will be able to watch him feature in the pre-season as Antonio Conte prepares for a packed schedule of club friendlies. They play K-League XI first before taking on the likes of Sevilla, Rangers and AS Roma as they prepare for what is going to be an exciting season ahead.
