Mundo Deportivo are reporting that Tottenham are the frontrunners to sign Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic.
The 32-year-old only has one year left on his contract at the Camp Nou and is expected to be allowed to leave this summer.
Although he is reaching the twilight of his career, the 106-cap Croatia international is still a class act, evidenced by this stunning volley against us in the Champions League last season…
These Spurs fans on Twitter would be happy to accept gambling on Rakitic’s age for a player of his proven pedigree.

A better option than Winks even at 32.

He’s criminally underrated

That goal he’s scored against us was unreal

I wouldn’t be at all averse to us signing a couple of 30+ players in the next window, and agree Rakitic would be a big upgrade on Harry Winks.

But neither a genuine sitter nor competition for Dele as a No.10, I wonder whether the Barcelona man is the type of midfielder that we need?
Levy is a disingenuous little $hit…
Moutinho? should have bought him when AVB wanted him, all those years ago. Not Daniel’s way to buy to improve the team though is it. Never was, never is.
Agreed on wages, he’ll make bigger money in Spain or Italy and probably secure a two or three year deal. Foreign players will also be aware of how Llorente was “rewarded” for filling in for Harry Kane and helping us to a Champions League Final.
I agree. The logical footballing reasons do not fit into Levy’s economic ones, so Rakitic will end up somewhere else.
That makes sense, Moutinho is s great example. Trouble is, Levy is a tw*t and he won’t sign players with no resale value or those commanding the ‘going rate’ wages at that stage of their careers. I’d be very surprised if this happens…
We need midfielders who can keep the ball in tight areas and can keep play moving. What is not to like about Rakitic? Look what Moutinho has done at Wolves in the last two seasons. There is nothing wrong with buying quality, experienced players. Utd did it with Blanc, we got Gallas. His wages will be a stumbling block.
