ESPN pundit Don Hutchison has named two Tottenham players who were outstanding against United.
Tottenham delivered a stellar performance against Manchester United at Old Trafford and were arguably unfortunate to secure only a point as the game concluded 2-2.
Richarlison continued his remarkable goal-scoring form since recovering from the surgery. He equalised in the 19th minute from a Porro corner, bringing Spurs level at 1-1 after Hojlund had put the Red Devils ahead just three minutes into the game.
But United restored their lead in the 40th minute, with Rashford finishing off a United break in style as Spurs went into the half trailing the game despite being the dominant team.
And they resumed the second half with a bang. Timo Werner and Rodrigo Bentancur linked up to score seconds into the second-half, with the Uruguayan scoring a lovely goal to make it 2-2.
Spurs outperformed United by a wide margin and likely would have won the game if they had the likes of Son and Kulusevski available in attack.
They were without 5 of their first-team players with Son, Pape Matar Sarr, and Yves Bissouma all unavailable due to their commitments with their national teams in AFCON and Asian Cup. Kulusevski was suspended and Maddison is yet to return from injury. Despite these setbacks, they significantly outplayed United at their home ground.
And Hutchison has singled out two Spurs players, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur, for their outstanding performance, in the absence of Bissouma and Sarr.
Speaking on ESPN, he said:
“Best two players on the pitch were Bentancur and Hojbjerg, I think they dominated. I thought Bentancur showed his quality. When you looked at the work Hojbjerg did, he covered every blade, he was all over the place.”
TBH Says:
Hojbjerg continues to strengthen his case with yet another solid performance. Since arriving from Southampton, he has proven to be one of the club’s best and most reliable midfielders.
However, suggestions have arisen that he doesn’t align with the style of play Ange aims to instil, leading to his decline in the pecking order and subsequently, his potential exit this month.
Meanwhile, Bentancur is just a monster. He was our best player last season until his unfortunate injury that kept him out for 9 long months.
And he has returned, picking off his form right where he left it. He stepped up in the absence of several key players and scored the all important goal that secured the draw for Spurs.
