Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou entered the international break facing mounting pressure after back-to-back defeats and a season plagued by inconsistency.
Currently 10th in the Premier League table with 16 points from 11 games, Spurs have shown glimpses of potential but have struggled to find stability under the manager.
The team’s record of five wins, five losses, and one draw underscores the volatility of their performances so far. Despite promising moments, Tottenham’s inconsistency has raised concerns about the direction of the team.
Ben Jacobs makes Ange Postecoglou sack claim
Football insider Ben Jacobs, speaking to GiveMeSport, weighed in on Postecoglou’s tenure, noting that while there are no immediate threats to his position, continued underperformance could invite closer scrutiny.
Jacobs highlighted the board’s current support for the Australian manager and the long-term vision he brings to the club. However, he emphasised that if results fail to improve significantly, especially into the next season, questions about his suitability for the role could arise.
Expectations remain high for Postecoglou, particularly after his stated ambitions of delivering silverware in his second season. Meeting these goals will be pivotal for maintaining confidence in his leadership.
Jacobs said:
“So I don’t think there’s a conversation yet about Postecoglou ending his Spurs tenure, because he’s back and believed in by the hierarchy in this new project.
“But I do think if we get to the end of the season and Spurs underwhelm and don’t win anything, then people will be coming back to those Postecoglou comments, and saying ‘the manager explicitly said he always wins something in his second season’ – he hasn’t.
“Should that happen, and then in the summer of 2025, he will then be facing the need for something positive into next season – otherwise we may be having a more serious conversation about whether Spurs are moving in the right direction.”
While the club has backed Postecoglou in the transfer market, including four summer signings, the team has yet to fully capitalise on its strengthened squad.
Recent losses to relegation-battling sides such as Crystal Palace and Ipswich Town have amplified concerns about Tottenham’s ability to consistently compete at a high level.
Postecoglou faces a critical period following the international break, starting with a tough away fixture against Manchester City. To regain momentum and dispel doubts, the 59-year-old coach must find a way to stabilise the squad and deliver positive results in the upcoming matches.
There have been reports suggesting that Amanda Staveley would like to replace Ange Postecoglou with Eddie Howe if the proposed investment goes through
While the board remains patient for now, a lack of clear progress by the season’s end could prompt serious questions about Postecoglou’s future at the helm.
