Giovani Lo Celso wants to part ways with Tottenham Hotspur ahead of next season.
The North London club shelled out a significant fee to sign the Argentine midfielder back in the day. Unfortunately, the move hasn’t gone according to plan and Lo Celso is frustrated due to the lack of minutes.
The 28-year-old ‘plans to force an exit’ this summer as per Estadio Deportivo. The report further states that Premier League rivals Aston Villa are keen on signing the attacking midfielder. The Argentine has played under Una Emery in the past and a reunion with him at the West Midlands club could be exciting.
Lo Celso arrived at the North London club in the summer of 2019 from Real Betis. It was an initial loan deal which was made permanent in the following summer. They paid a fee of €12 million for the loan and another €32 million to sign him permanently.
The Argentine attacking midfielder was expected to become a key first-team player but things haven’t worked out for him at Spurs. He was on loan at Villarreal last season and was ready to part ways in the summer.
Giovani Lo Celso to return to Spain?
Spurs wanted €25 million for the Argentine international, a fee that no club was willing to pay. While he could have secured another loan move away from the London club, Lo Celso decided to stay.
The decision seems to have backfired as he has had less than 600 minutes of first-team football. Frustrated by the lack of minutes, the 28-year-old now wants a way out in the summer. And, with his contract running out in the summer of 2025, this is Tottenham’s last opportunity to earn a decent fee from his departure.
Real Betis are the ones keen on bringing him back to the club. They haven’t forgotten about the 28-year-old and neither has he. The two parties have been in constant contact over the past few months as they look to reunite next summer.
While Barcelona have also been linked with Lo Celso, Betis are the ones who are working hard on a potential deal. They are preparing an offer that could help them bring their star back to the club five years after his big-money move to Tottenham.
