Arrests For Online Racism After Man Utd Game Shows Millennials Mostly Responsible

By The Boy -

A dozen men have been arrested or questioned under caution after a series of racist online abuse was targeted by the Metropolitan Police. The action was prompted by events surrounding the Manchester United vs Tottenham match on Sunday 11 April. It would appear that much of the nasty stuff was aimed in particular at Tottenham’s Heung-min Son after Spurs lost the game 3-1.

Hopefully, the investigations can be concluded swiftly, and these people get the message that what they did will not be tolerated in the 21st century. What is of note, however, is the age profile, and to a lesser although not inconsequential degree, the geographic locations.

Of the 12, 8 were what are referred to as ‘generation Y’ which are those born roughly between 1980 and 1994 – Millennials. 4 of the 12 reside in Wales.

As Denzel Washington said, ‘it starts in the home’. So perhaps if you’re the parent of someone who has entered their second decade on this planet, you might want to check that you haven’t brought up someone who the police would probably like to talk to.

Mind how you go.

That’s where the Police step in as they did. Doesn’t matter where the recipient of the racism is, it’s about what was said, by whom and where they are.

The racism was directed towards someone from south-east Asia. The big tech companies (and many corporations in general) aren’t so interested in that type of racism, only BLM which they can virtual signal about.

There are many bad things about social media but the worst is that it gives a platform to these Neanderthals to spout their hate and vitriol without any form of accountability in most cases. It’s great that these brain dead smelly farts in human form have been identified and hopefully prosecuted, but this is just the tip of a very big iceberg and companies like FB and Twitter need to be held accountable for their content. Saying we are just a platform and are not responsible for the views of those who post is not acceptable and never has been. Until this is changed you will still have a large part of the hatred iceberg hidden beneath the surface.

From your video about Jamie Redknapp’s and other comments about Dele Alli, the fact that he has had more changes in his hair style than good days on the pitch over the latest few years says it all.

Quite frankly, the Internet will eventually be found to be one of the worst inventions due to the fact it has given everyone, even the stupid people, a voice.

Curious geographic spread, why is Wales so prominent. There is only one person from Manchester itself. Online seems a bit of a Wild West.

The police doing the social media companies work for them.

The whole online thing is driven by advertising and the need for clicks and the more lurid, aggressive and sensational you are the more attention you get; the money then follows that.
