“Appreciated internally” – Fabrizio Romano shares the latest on Tottenham’s managerial hunt

By Mehdi Gokal -

The prolonged search for a new manager at Tottenham Hotspur may finally be reaching its conclusion, with reports suggesting that Feyenoord boss Arne Slot is now the leading candidate for the job.

Since the departure of Antonio Conte in March, Spurs have been without a permanent manager, fueling speculation about potential successors. A host of names have been linked to the position, including former Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann, Vincent Kompany, Ruben Amorim, Ange Postecoglou, and Brendan Rodgers. Mauricio Pochettino also briefly appeared on the radar, but the club’s chairman, Daniel Levy, was not keen on reappointing him, as Pochettino ultimately joined London rivals Chelsea.

The latest update comes from renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano, who stated in a recent Youtube video that internal conversations within Tottenham have indicated that Arne Slot is the front-runner for the managerial role. Romano emphasised that Slot is “appreciated” within the club and has a “concrete chance” of taking the helm at Spurs.

Furthermore, Romano revealed that Arne Slot will engage in direct discussions with Feyenoord this week to explore the potential terms and compensation required for him to make the move to the Premier League. While Slot appears to be in pole position, Romano also acknowledged that Luis Enrique, Ange Postecoglou, and Ruben Amorim should not be completely ruled out as yet.

However, he went on to say that sources close to the aforementioned managers reportedly believe that Slot is “now the big favorite” for the Tottenham job. However, negotiations are ongoing, leaving room for further developments in the coming days.

In his latest YouTube video, Fabrizio Romano said (1:44 onwards):

“An important update from the Tottenham job because Daniel Levy is still looking for a new director and then he will go for a new manager. But internal conversations as I told you are taking place for Arne Slot, the Feyenoord manager. He is really appreciated internally at Tottenham and so he has a concrete chance at the Tottenham job.

Arne Slot will also have direct conversations with Feyenoord this week to understand the potential conditions and compensations needed for him to go to the Premier League.

So this is a concrete chance for Tottenham. Arne Slot is the front runner for the job now but let’s keep the likes of Luis Enrique, Ange Postecoglou and Ruben Amorim also in the list.

But I understand that sources close to these managers feel that Arne Slot is now the big favourite.”

Tottenham supporters eagerly anticipate an announcement from the club, hoping for a swift resolution to the managerial saga.

Arne Slot’s potential appointment would be a start to something new for Spurs, as the Feyenoord manager who helped the Dutch club win their first league title since 2017 will hope to replicate his success at the North London club.

Although he may not have been the preferred choice for many Spurs fans, especially with notable names like Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique still on the market, there is a possibility that, given sufficient time and resources, he could turn Tottenham into a formidable side again .
