Antonio Conte was reportedly not keen on signing 26-year-old for Tottenham

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur signed Yves Bissouma from Brighton and Hove Albion at the start of the season.

The 26-year-old was one of the most accomplished defensive midfielders in the league when Spurs decided to sign am but the Mali international has failed to hold down a regular starting spot under Antonio Conte.

Former Ireland manager Brian Kerr has now revealed that Conte didn’t really want to sign the Brighton midfielder and that is why Bissouma has struggled for game time this season.

“Spurs supporters will be looking at that with the heavy investment this season again and they’re Conte’s players. He’s signed a couple from Juventus, Kulusevski and Bentancur. Bissouma, he was signed from Brighton and he won’t play him. I don’t know why he signed him if he didn’t really want him. Lenglet is another one from Barca,” Kerr said.

It remains to be seen whether the 26-year-old can convince Conte of his quality and establish himself as a regular starter for Tottenham in the coming months.

There is no doubt that he is a quality Premier League midfielder who could be an asset for the London club in the coming seasons.

Bissouma is entering his peak years and he will need to play regularly in order to fulfil his potential.

Meanwhile, Kerr has added that Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet, who is currently on loan at the Premier League club is another player Conte did not want.

The former Ireland manager’s revelations will certainly confuse Tottenham fans as to why the club signed the two players if Conte did not want them in his squad.

Tottenham need to add more quality to their midfield and defence and it is evident that Bissouma and Lenglet have not been able to live up to the expectations.

It remains to be seen whether Tottenham decide to part ways with the two players at the end of the season and bring in reinforcements during the summer transfer window.
