Tottenham Hotspur has not reached a contract extension with their goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, whose deal expires in June. At the same time, there’s speculation regarding the 35-year-old’s future as his old club OGC Nice reportedly has an interest.
Nonetheless, manager Antonio Conte isn’t sweating that a deal between the two parties will be reached to prolong Lloris’ stay in north London. The Daily Mail relayed the Italian tactician’s remarks following the win over Watford.
“I am sure in a short time they can find a solution because he loves Tottenham and Tottenham loves him,” Conte said. “Hugo today showed he is a top player and always focussed. For us, he is very important.”
Conte might have an insight into how discussions are going between two parties, which explains his confidence that a deal can get done. Furthermore, the 52-year-old isn’t reportedly sold on Pierluigi Gollini, who’s on loan to Tottenham from Atalanta.
If Conte doesn’t think Gollini is the future goalkeeper, perhaps he prefers holding onto Lloris until they find a replacement that he sees as the heir apparent for the France international.
Nonetheless, a departure remains a possibility until a pen is put to paper on an extension.
