“He was outstanding” – Ange Postecoglou singles out Tottenham star for his brilliant performance vs West Ham

Tottenham were held to a 1-1 draw against London rivals West Ham last night.

Brennan Johnson gave the away side the lead inside 5 minutes from a brilliantly worked Tottenham goal.

However, West Ham responded with an equaliser 15 minutes later. Bowen’s inswinging corner was guided in by Kurt Zouma with a help of some fortune.

The home side grew into the game after their equaliser and while both sides created a number of chances, neither could put the ball in the back of the net again, with the game ending in a 1-1 draw.

Midfielder Yves Bissouma was deemed at fault by Joe Cole on TNT Sports, who blamed him for neglecting his duties while defending the corner which left Vicario exposed.

However, Ange Postecoglou praised his performance, in partiucular the defensive side of it.

Speaking to Match of the Day after the full-time whistle, the Tottenham boss suggested that he was hugely impressed by Yves Bissouma in the draw.

“I thought he was outstanding. Yves did the defensive work which was always going to be important today. The general effort from the lads was strong. It’s a tough place to come.”

“There’s a lot of games to go still. I will be very surprised if all games aren’t tight. Everyone is fighting for something. We have to maintain our levels.”

Tottenham are now two points behind Villa, who play Manchester City later tonight. They will be expected to drop points against the reigning champions, which is why the two points we dropped last night would not feel that significant.

However, with the season entering its final stretch, Spurs can simply not afford to drop any more points.
