Ange Postecoglou gives strong hint that midfielder could be sold this summer

By Mehdi Gokal -

Tottenham Hotspur’s homegrown talent Oliver Skipp could be on his way out of the club, suggests manager Ange Postecoglou, as the North London outfit considers potential squad changes ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

Despite making 17 Premier League appearances this season, Skipp has primarily been utilised as a substitute, featuring in the starting XI for only four games.

Crystal Palace had expressed interest in securing the defensive midfielder on loan earlier in the winter transfer window, but Spurs were reluctant to part ways with him at the time.

However, Postecoglou’s recent comments indicate a shift in the club’s stance regarding Skipp’s future.

Speaking about Skipp’s role for the upcoming season, Postecoglou emphasised that decisions about individual players would be made with both the club’s interests and the player’s development in mind.

Ahead of Spurs’ upcoming Premier League fixture against Newcastle United on Saturday, Postecoglou addressed Skipp’s situation, stating (as quoted by Alasdair Gold on Football.London)

“We’re quite comfortable in that situation as well.

”Decisions about individual players will all be made in the context of what’s good for the club and what’s good for the player and hopefully there’s some sort of alignment there.

”Sometimes there isn’t. From our perspective we’re comfortable that with the squad we have we’ll make decisions that are going to be beneficial for us in terms of our growth.

”A lot of those individual things about individual players won’t be made until post-season.”

While Tottenham aim to strengthen its squad with new signings, the departure of Skipp could pose a challenge, particularly in meeting UEFA’s requirements for club-trained players.

Skipp’s status as one of Tottenham’s few club-trained players could complicate his potential departure, specially on loan, as the club would need to ensure compliance with UEFA’s squad composition rules.

Postecoglou’s remarks suggest that Skipp’s future at Tottenham will be determined post-season, indicating a period of uncertainty for the 23-year-old midfielder as the club evaluates its options for squad improvement and compliance with regulatory requirements.
