“Ange is a big fan” – Sky Sports man says Spurs will make summer move for 24-yr-old

Despite Tottenham Hotspur enjoying a successful January transfer window with the completion of three deals, they could not finalise the transfer of Conor Gallagher, a player they really wanted.

The Chelsea midfielder has been on Spurs’ radar since last summer, with the club even making a deadline day bid in September. However, the deal did not materialise.

Spurs were expected to make concrete efforts to sign the Englishman going into the winter transfer window. And while interest remained strong, the North Londoners did not make an official bid for the midfielder.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge has not ruled out the possibility of the deal happening in the summer.

Ange Postecoglou has been the driving force behind Spurs’ pursuit of Gallagher, as the Australian manager fancies the profile similar to that of England International.

Bridge confirms that the hierarchy at Stamford Bridge could consider selling the academy star to adhere to Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations if any offer arrives for Gallagher.

He said:

“It could very possibly be revisited in the summer if he doesn’t sign a new contract. I think that Conor Gallagher is someone Ange Postecoglou is a big fan of. He loves midfielders that are box-to-box, and I think he considers him to be in that category.

“Tottenham and Chelsea just don’t do transfer business, but there is a new regime with Todd Boehly and this is a player that Chelsea could sell for pure profit.

“We have seen that the profit and sustainability rules have teeth in the last few weeks, so Chelsea would have to consider offers.”

The 24-year-old midfielder has less than 18 months remaining on his contract, which is set to expire on June 30.

He has 6 goals and 7 assists in 77 games for the club and is playing some of his best football in a Chelsea shirt under Mauricio Pochettino.

But despite the manager’s desire to keep him at the club, there is no news regarding a contract renewal, leaving the door open for Spurs to potentially secure the signing of the current captain of their London rivals in the summer.
