Massive injury blow for Tottenham ahead of League Cup clash against Liverpool

Tottenham’s injury concerns persist as manager Ange Postecoglou confirmed that Micky van de Ven will be unavailable for the crucial second-leg Carabao Cup semi-final against Liverpool.

The Dutch defender recently made his long-awaited return in Spurs’ 3-0 win over Elfsborg, featuring for the first 45 minutes before being substituted as part of a pre-planned rotation.

Despite completing the half without any setbacks, Postecoglou has decided against rushing him back into high-intensity fixtures.

The Spurs boss emphasised that Van de Ven is still working towards full match fitness, and exposing him to a demanding contest too soon could be a risk.

With the Premier League and cup competitions requiring players to operate at their peak, the medical team has opted for a cautious approach regarding his reintegration. Via Football London, Postecoglou said:

“With Micky and Romero to a certain extent, it’s about being conservative with them. Micky got through the 45 minutes but he feels he’s not ready yet for the step up to the Premier League yet. Obviously a big shame to lose Radu.

“It’s a bit of everything. He [Micky] got through the game no problem but had a look at stats, Premier League is a whole different beast and after losing Radu, I thought what we had ahead of us.”

This development is another setback for Tottenham’s already injury-hit defence. Radu Dragusin was recently ruled out for the remainder of the season due to an ACL injury, while Cristian Romero remains sidelined as he continues his recovery.

Kevin Danso to make his debut for Tottenham vs Liverpool

With Van de Ven also unavailable, Postecoglou may have to turn to the recent loan signing Kevin Danso.

The Austrian centre-back, who arrived from Lens earlier this week, could be thrown into the deep end with a potential debut in one of Spurs’ biggest games of the season.

Tottenham take a narrow 1-0 lead into Anfield but will face a stern test against a high-flying Liverpool side managed by Arne Slot. A strong defensive display will be essential for Spurs to secure a result and keep their hopes alive of ending their trophy drought.

Despite the mounting fitness concerns, Postecoglou remains focused on navigating this critical period. Tottenham fans will be hoping their side can overcome adversity and book their place in the Carabao Cup final, setting the stage for a much-anticipated silverware.
