Tottenham Hotspur striker Richarlison has been heavily criticised since he moved to the north London club.
The Brazilian international has not been able to perform at a high level consistently following the £60 million move from Everton. However, there has been an upturn in form this season.
After scoring just three goals in 35 matches last season, Richarlison seems to have rediscovered his goalscoring form. The 26-year-old has scored seven goals in his last nine appearances.
Spurs fans will certainly hope that he can continue to perform at a high level in the coming months and help the team finish in the top four. The Londoners needed more support in the attack and Richarlison’s return to form could not have been better timed.
Manager Ange Postecoglou has now revealed to Football London that the Brazilian has an exemplary attitude and he is always looking to improve. He added that the 26-year-old is now becoming an important player for the team.
“I think his general game is improving and that’s the main thing for me. That’s what I’ve seen. The way we play and the kind of player Richy is, I was always confident he would score goals but we need more than that. I think his work rate now defensively, which was really important when we had Sonny up there, hasn’t dropped off with Richy there. He’s working really hard for the team and the Ks (kilometres) he did the other night was right up there. Then his link up and hold up play is improving all the time. See I love that. I love when players still want to improve and do improve rather than say he’s played for his national team and been here quite a while. I can see him developing further and that’s what you want as a manager and coach. For us, he’s becoming a really important player.”
Richarlison has previously shown his quality in the Premier League with Everton. He was always a good player who struggled to get going at his new club.
The Brazilian is more than just a goalscorer and his ability to help out creatively and bring others into the play adds a new dimension to the Spurs attack.
The 26-year-old will be motivated by the comments from the manager and he will look to continue in his rich vein of form in the coming months.
