Tottenham are looking to part ways with players not part of the club’s plans, and among them is midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
Rumoured for several months to be leaving North London, Hojbjerg’s departure seems imminent this summer.
And as per the latest from Daily Star as relayed by Football London, Ange Postecoglou has given the green light for the Danish international to be sold during the upcoming transfer window.
Hojbjerg saw himself fall down the pecking order under Postecoglou. The likes of Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr were picked ahead of him, with his role reducing to that of a squad player. He still made 36 league appearances, but started only 21% of them.
The defensive midfielder has been linked with a departure for several windows, attracting interest from clubs such as Atletico Madrid, Fulham, Juventus, and Napoli.
Jose Mourinho, Hojbjerg’s former manager at Spurs, has also expressed interest in signing him at his new club, Fenerbahce.
The 28-year-old has entered the final year of his contract, which expires in June next year.
Tottenham have reportedly set a £20 million asking price for the former Bayern player. The most recent and compelling interest remains from Fenerbahce, with Mourinho keen to reunite with Hojbjerg.
Discussions between Fenerbahce and Spurs are reportedly underway. Mourinho, who made Hojbjerg a key player during his tenure with the Lilywhites, sees the Dane as a valuable addition to his new team in Turkey.
As Tottenham prepare for the upcoming season, selling Hojbjerg will not only provide the midfielder with the playing time he seeks but also generate funds for Spurs to invest in new signings.
