Analysis|Giovani Lo Celso is being moulded to be the next Michael Carrick

By The Boy -

Giovani Lo Celso is being moulded by Jose Mourinho into the next Michael Carrick, the next Luka Modric. There’s still some way to go, as can be borne out by the dribbling stats below, but one had to take into account that this is an attacking midfielder that is being moulded.

Jose’s other options are sparse. If Tanguy Ndombele wasn’t permanently indisposed, then the Frenchman could shoulder a lot of the work.

What is an appealing feature, is that Giovani’s 4 duff passes were all short ones, that were blocked, which serves to underline my suspicion that the Argentine has the intelligence in his play to deliver what Mourinho needs.

My advice to fans is not to get too worked up over how exciting Lo Celso’s play might be, and try to focus upon what he’s achieving – the bigger picture. After all, there are still some people out there that never understood how important Carrick was, and yet Sir Alex Ferguson effectively built a generation of teams around him.

Fantastic given his position on the park
Must do better

Just needs a bit of quality around him. Whenever Aurier, Sissoko and Davies get the ball we come to a stop. Aurier put in a beaut of cross v Newcastle, but because his previous 3675 crosses had been awful no one bothered to run!

Yes I was one of those who didnt appreciate Carrick until we lost him. Lo C is more of the build of Modric and what a player he was.

Yes mate! Composed I would use that word too. Resilient, tough, hard working. Newcastle were right on it last night and we restricted them to half chances. No one is opening us up at will any more.

As long as we don’t lose him to Man Utd in his prime…which is thankfully doubtful now Bruno’s there. As others have said he just needs better quality support in midfield. Looking like our best signing since Sonny otherwise.

Sadly being the next Míchael Carrick or Luka Modric didn’t summon up the image to my eyes that you were trying to draw Harry. A very good buy, more like him please. Its not that complicated Mr Levy.

Berry berry talented boy.

Similar to Lamela in that his eyes look like a man trying to look ‘loco’. The physicality of the prem ruffles their feathers.

Once he is playing alongside upgrades to Sissoko and Winks then we will see the best of him.

Anyone else think we starting to look very composed? Maybe not exciting attacking play but calm and limiting oppossing attacks? Building a base?

Kane’s gonna lift a trophy for us under Jose. Europa and domestic cup double? STOP IT

Teams are definitely marking/fouling him like he’s already Luka Modric so he’s doing something right for sure
