Tottenham Hotspur are looking to bolster their squad in the January transfer window and have identified versatile La Liga attacker Alex Baena as a potential target.
Having already added players such as Dominic Solanke, Archie Gray, Lucas Bergvall, and Wilson Odobert over the summer, Spurs remain keen on securing more talent to strengthen their squad.
Additionally, the club is set to welcome 18-year-old South Korean winger Min-hyuk Yang in January, following an agreement made during the summer.
Tottenham eyeing move for Alex Baena
One of the primary targets for Tottenham in the upcoming window is Villarreal’s versatile attacker Alex Baena, according to Fichajes.
As per the report, the club are ready to make a ‘significant offer’ in January for the player as they ‘dream’ to add a player in their squad in the upcoming window.
The 23-year-old, who predominantly plays on the left wing but is adept across multiple attacking roles, has drawn significant interest from Spurs due to his consistent performances in La Liga.
Baena’s contract with Villarreal runs until 2028, having extended it in early 2023, underscoring his importance to the club.
He currently holds a market value of €50 million, with a release clause set at €60 million, highlighting the considerable investment needed for Spurs to secure his transfer.
Baena’s path at Villarreal showcases steady progression and impressive milestones.
Joining their youth system in 2011, he made his senior debut for the C-team in 2018 and broke into the first team in July 2020.
A pivotal loan stint at Girona in the 2021–22 season contributed to their promotion, after which Baena returned to Villarreal and became a key component of their lineup.
His remarkable 2023–24 season included leading La Liga with 14 assists, underlining his playmaking capabilities.
So far this season, Baena has maintained his strong form, with one goal and five assists in 11 La Liga matches.
Villarreal might be open to negotiations that could benefit both clubs, making him a promising prospect to boost Spurs’ attacking options and support their ambitions for the rest of the season.
