Alasdair Gold shares update on injured Tottenham defender and reveals expected return date

Tottenham Hotspur expert Alasdair Gold has shared the latest update on promising young centre-back Alfie Dorrington, who has been sidelined since January due to a hamstring injury.

Dorrington, a highly regarded English talent, regularly trained with Spurs’ first-team squad under Ange Postecoglou last season and was included in 10 Premier League matchday squads, though he has yet to make his senior debut. He was also a key player for Tottenham’s U21 side, helping them lift the Premier League 2 trophy.

In a Q&A session on Football London, Gold revealed that Dorrington suffered two separate hamstring injuries last season, which required surgery after the second injury in May.

He said:

“Alfie suffered two hamstring injuries last season that hampered his development.”

“He’s only just returned to training following the second injury in May, which required surgery, and is yet to play this season.”

“He is expected to be gradually introduced back into matches as this month progresses before hitting his stride again in October as the games come thick and fast. He may well end up getting minutes in Europe with the lack of cover in the months ahead.”

The young defender is now back in training, with the expectation that he will be gradually reintroduced into competitive matches throughout September.

Gold added that by October, as the fixtures pile up, Dorrington could regain his stride and may even see minutes in European competitions due to a lack of defensive cover in the squad.

Tottenham fans will be eager to see Dorrington’s progression as he returns to full fitness, with hopes that he can contribute to the team’s upcoming domestic and European campaigns.
