Alasdair Gold claims Spurs star’s future is ‘under pressure’ from Conte

By Mehdi Gokal -

Journalist Alasdair Gold claims that Ryan Sessegnon will be under pressure to start for Tottenham Hotspur next season.

Sessegnon appears to have overcome the majority of his injury issues this season under Antonio Conte, as he is on track to play the most league matches for Tottenham since joining the club in 2019.

This season, the 22-year-old has largely competed with veteran Ivan Perisic for a starting spot at left wing-back under Conte and appeared to have cemented his place under Conte, however, according to the latest report, his future seems uncertain as well.

According to Gold when Udogie returns to Spurs next summer, Sessegnon will be under pressure to perform and maintain his minutes in the first team.

He said on his on his YouTube channel:

“I’m interested to see how the battle next season will work with three people fighting it out, with Destiny Udogie coming along as well as obviously Perisic, so I think Sessegnon’s the one under pressure this season.”

Another fullback whose future at the club is very uncertain is Emerson Royal. He has managed to keep his place as the preferred right wing-back but that is more to do with Spurs having a lack of options than his quality. He has come under huge criticism for his performances this season.

According to reports, Emerson Royal is set to be replaced and with Djed Spence also not getting many minutes this season, it is possible that he could be loaned out too. Regardless, a new right wing-back is almost a necessity for Spurs at the moment and the club will most likely be in the market for one in the next transfer windows.
